assignment 6: design analysis

assignment 4: A3 poster

have decided to do a poster for world vision. basically, it's a sponsorship program for a child in undeveloped countries...

"I wish I could live a normal life like other children" - Janchivchinbaa, age 6, Mongolia

the moment i read this phrase from world vision website, my heart sank. i realized while most of us are so fortunate that we dont appreciate with what with have, the other these children are struggling to survive.

hence, i decided to use a person dressed in normal tees and pants with angel wings. this is to show that a small contribution from a normal person can turn him/her into a special angel (at least to the children).

feedback from my classmates:

1. the poster doesnt convey the message over.

- have decided to make some amendments. shrink the angel and add children into the poster.

2. never seen male angels before.

- according to the bible, there are male angels. for instance, Archangel(Superior Angels) Gabriel.
- another reason i want to use a male angel is because most of us recognize females as angels. i want to convey the message that there should not only be female angels but male angels; i hope not only attract the females' attention but also the males' attention.

love is in the air (continued~)

the colours look so different from seeing from the screen and printing out the artwork... the colours printed out werent what I wanted... :(

anyways... got feedback from my classmates:

the colour of the text should be changed.

so here's the changes:

1. Change the text to purple colour...

well, i really didnt like this idea. as i always find purple does not goes with red. in my own opinion at least.

2. Tone down the background...

ah... i prefer this idea! ;p

or any other better suggestions?

love is in the air~

first, to pick a favourite quote. i chose this quote from my favourite book "A Walk to Remember", which is also the quote from the Bible...

Love is patient and kind.
It is never jealous.
Love is never boastful or conceited,
It is never rude or selfish.
It does not take offense and is not resentful.
Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins,
But delights in the truth.
It is always ready to excuse, to trust,
to hope, and to endure whatever comes.

since this week is all about colours, i have played around with a few colours:

and here's my final choice:

Mr. Jeong Ji Hoon

Rain finally arrived in Singapore on 18/1/2007

after waiting for several months, Korean superstar, Rain, is finally here to open his first ever concert in Singapore. i was just having mixed feelings while waiting for his arrival at Changi Airport. when i got to see him face-to-face for the first time, my heart skipped a beat.

it sounds really crazy for a 21 year-old lady to chase after an idol. however, i must admit that the 5-day chase (18/1 ~ 22/1) was addictive and enjoyable, of course.

here's some video clips/pictures of his concert...

i'm falling head over heeds in him. my lappie (the name i gave my laptop) is filled with his clips, pictures... my wallpaper and screensaver are his pictures. therefore, an idea sprung across my mind. i decided to use him as my topic for my assignment 1.

firstly, i identified the characteristics of rain:
1. he dances well.
2. he likes to wear shades and caps.
3. he has small eyes.
4. he's adorable.
5. he has short hair.
6. he has good bods.

i have did a sketch, will try to upload it as soon as possible.

Design 1: My name is Jasmine and I love Hallyu

this topic has cracked my brain for a moment. gosh~ what do I love? there are so many stuffs that I really love. *ponders... what do I hate?" well, can't think of any actually.

finally, i have decided to have my topic as shown below, it's something that I really love alot, at least for this moment now...

I love HALLYU (also known as the korean wave) .

research...

definition
HALLYU (korean wave) refers to the popularity of South Korean popular culture in other countries (definition taken from wikipedia.com)

how can I interpret Hallyu as images/graphics?

Firstly, I take into consideration the South Korea's flag.

image(above) from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_korea

Then, I went to Channelnewsasia.com to search for more related graphics.
here's what I found:

One of their TV shows - Riding the Korean Wave with Suzanne Jung. The words "Korean Wave" are of different colors, red and blue respectively, which reminds me of the South Korea's flag.

Another TV show - Dynamic Korea. The letter 'O' in the word 'Korea' is to represent the South Korea's flag.

besides that, I went to observe the logo of Korean Airlines

the logo of Korean Airlines is somewhat similar to the text of Dynamic Korea. both make use of the South Korea's flag as their letter 'O'.

therefore, here's the final 2 works I presented to the class:

converting my name into korean with the nearest pronounciation and playing with the colours, Red and blue (which is the colour of the national flag).

basically playing round with the colours, Red and blue. and adding the round-shaped icon.

Tutorial 1
while attending tutorial 1, I realized I was on the wrong track. what I did was too simple and do not fit the assignment requirements.

however, I managed to get some nice feedbacks from my fellow tutorial mates.

1. Try using people dressed up in Korean costumes (hanbok) and position them into my name.

2. Try using the korean words (hangul) to form my name (in English).

to be continued...
